What We Fund
As a small not-for-profit, MS Hope for a Cure is committed to ensuring the dollars we raise are spent in the most productive and helpful manner. We have divided our funding into 4 areas where we feel we can have the greatest impact. These are the only areas for which we will accept a grant application.
1. Research Request (National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) approved projects only)
MS Hope for a Cure recognizes that the National MS Society has the greatest knowledge base and resources to evaluate specific research projects and determine where funds will be best spent most effective. We will therefore be donating some of our research dollars to Fast Forward, one of the National MS Society’s new initiatives. Fast Forward will be able to leverage our funds with other contributions and make progress more quickly than MS Hope for a Cure could do on its own. In addition, MS Hope for a Cure will fund research that has already been vetted and approved by the NMSS.
2. Personnel and/or Laboratory Equipment Request for established research labs where MS related projects have already been funded
MS Hope for a Cure recognizes the incredible time and effort doctors and researchers are spending in labs working on finding a cure for MS and improving the lives of people living with MS. For specific research projects funded by the National MS Society, we want to support these researchers by supplying additional equipment or personnel that will allow these funded projects to proceed more quickly and efficiently.
3. Personnel and/or Programs for local NY MS Centers Request
MS Hope for a Cure believes that until a cure is found it is imperative that we do whatever we can to help those individual living with MS and their families. Local MS Centers offer comprehensive care and a dedication to serving individuals with MS, however they have limited resources. MS Hope for a Cure is interested in funding personnel and/or programs that will enable the MS Centers to care for more individuals based on those most in need. Personnel or programs funded by MS Hope for a Cure must demonstrate an ability to reach a currently underserved constituency within the MS population.
4. Individuals whose lives have been directly affected by Multiple Sclerosis
MS Hope for a Cure recognizes that, while we cannot reach everyone, each life is precious and grants to individuals affected by MS can make a difference in changing that one life. Although we will not make direct grants to individuals we will provide support for programs that aid individuals living with MS or children of individuals living with MS.
