Scholarship Fund
The National MS Society, Greater North Jersey Chapter
Meryl Ravitz
1 year grant, $25,000

The MS Scholarship Program started in 1994, with $5,000 granted to approximately 20 students who are affected in some way by Multiple Sclerosis. In 2009, this self-funded program had grown tremendously, granting $64,000 to 61 students. The scholarships are available to anyone going to college in the area served by the Greater North Jersey Chapter. Of the students receiving the scholarships, approximately 34% had total family income under $50,000 and 34% had income ranging from $50,000 - $100,000. Approximately 30% of the recipients were members of families that had more than one student in college. Six students had MS themselves. The economic impact of MS on a family is tremendous and makes sending children to college an extra burden
